When you smell like Coconut Curry!!

So I woke up with really really frizzy hair. Nothing new for some one who owns a hay-bale-dry crown. But since there were exactly 20 minutes left for the bus to arrive and I had to fit in all my morning rituals in that time frame, that was an emergency. And in a desperate attempt to tame my locks, I applied copious amount of coconut oil to the 'side burns', the wiry ones on top and the tips. It worked though. Now my hair is flatly ironed to my head, making my forehead  look like a board big enough to solve differential calculus.

But that's not even the worst part. As soon as I took my coat off in the office and let my ponytail swing free, I was hit by this sudden gust of coconut smell, the ones that effuse from Thai coconut curry.

Left with no other option, I applied thick layer Acacia Hand Cream, to diffuse the coconutty 'aroma'. Mix that with my strawberry scented antiperspirant and you get a walking talking perfume factory. Seriously, I haven't even eaten anything since morning but already smell like a lunch meal with dessert.

Bad hair day!! You bet!!

  1. Ha ha...You have such a way of describing things, Raji! when I was growing up, people who plastered their hair with coconut oil were referred to as Coconut Oil Marys!

  5. As a Mallu, we regularly get stuck with coconut oil in our heads and hey, even in our meals... but the same smell that is so normal for us is really frowned upon by others who are not used to it :)

  6. Yuck! I can imagine how you must have felt. I too had wild, unruly, frizzy hair and in my attempt to tame it into silky locks I tried all kinds of treatments including one which involved applying a mixture of curd, coconut oil, and raw egg. I would then wrap my head with a hot towel. You can imagine how awful that smelled . And now forty years on, my hair is thin and flyaway and I miss that unruly mess. Moral of the story - enjoy your hair while you still have it !

  7. Haha, so does the hair stand exceptionally straight? If so, must try it on my own hair...might be better than all the frizzles even with the smell! I'll call it the coconut curry glory!

  11. Haha .. But I hear you, sister.. Strangely though my hair is only manageable when I keep it oiled even after hair wash, especially after hair wash.. So the trick is to spray lots of perfume to contain the oil smell ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. A totally hilarious post Raj! Specially the differential calculus part :P
Bad hair days are really bad. And I guess that curly haired people like me can manage their hair to some extent. But the ones with poker straight hair like you might have too many problems! :D
