Stumbling Bumbling Handstand Journey #atozchallenge

It's been over a year since I have been jumping around the wall almost every evening, practicing distorted cartwheels, with hope that someday my core will hold my legs up. I desperately wanted to do some anti gravity funky stuff, you know like a Handstand.

So when one fine February evening, my feet actually were up on the wall, even for a second, it felt like magic!! Took me about 50 jumps before I could hold it in that position. I was sweaty, huffing puffing, on the verge of crying ... nothing like the gorgeous intructor on Youtube!! Damn they never sweat or what!!


Of course the next thing I did was to take a video, and post it on instagram... pretending that it's no big deal. Like my wrists aren't cursing me or my shoulders weren't going through hell. But hey, it all worked out.

So how I go about it everyday? I start with cardio, because you need to warm up. I put on some bollywood song, swing my hands, kick my feet, sway my waist, not a pretty sight I tell you. Then some downward dog to low plank transition, just to wake up the wrists. Then come the Planks which somedays I spend lying on the floor watching fitness videos in hope that someday I will be able to do it without pausing {ha ha ha}. Once I am done with all, I try handstand, which is jumping back and forth, against the wall, untill my feet are up atleast for about 5 to 10 breaths.

And then I lie down, in Savasana (the corpse pose), thinking about a packet Cheetos hidden in some corner of the kitchen cabinet.

  1. I was just about to go in for my Yoga session when I took a quick peek at the posts. Now I just have to go and stand on my shoulders ( I love sarvangasana)

  2. Phew, that is a lot of hard work. I prefer visuals to practicals, especially with a bowl of munchies on my lap, feels good to watch people work out....very inspiring I tell you ;)

  3. I must say that it is a pretty picture, ultimately :) There was a time I was Bollywood dancing and our instructor tried to get us to do this. I completely panicked, and didn't even attempt to do this! So kudos to you!!

  10. Raji, exercise is over rated! Nah, just teasing ya. :) I love using my elliptical whenever I get a chance. I can't do handstands anymore, but most other things I can do.   13. Have you tried having your upper back closer to the wall (touching the wall)? It will help with balance until your core muscles are stronger and it won't put as much strain on your shoulders. Girl Who Reads

  16. I am most impressed! I have never been able to do a handstand and the one time I ever did a front walkover , I broke my foot ( I was 15).
