My Mischief Maker #atozchallenge

A Whimsical Medley - Is my theme for the A to Z Challenge !! Hope you smile today :)

I was furiously looking at the screen, trying to debug a code when my phone rang.
"There's a good news and a bad news", my husband said from the other end.
"Just say it", I replied still staring at my computer.
"Ahem... I got a job, but you won't be happy"

It was four months since he was trying to find a job in Sydney, and as much time since we landed on the Australian soil. Frustration, disappointment and all those 'bad-sad' feelings had started creeping on him. This was probably the best news in a long time.

Immediately, I got up and went to a quiet room, because I was pretty sure my voice will not be able to contain all the excitement.

"How can I not be happy... this is great!!"
"Well, I will have to travel back to Pune."

That was the sound of my heart breaking.

We had left everything in India, spent the savings in paying off Car Loan and acquiring the Australian Visa. I was still contracting here. The thought of him going back, leaving me alone in a strange country was something I had never imagined.

I met him at the train station in the evening. He looked quite content and I didn't try to dampen his spirits by talking about living apart.

"I will have to leave in one week", he said and my heart sank further. I couldn't look at him all the way back home. He had invited Ro's family and Sr to our room to celebrate the news. Their confusion was apparent, whether to congratulate him or feel sad. You see we all came to Sydney together, to start anew. We had envisaged similar dreams, to think that one would go back was truly disheartening.

I was sitting in a corner with Ro's wife, who could understand the turmoil I was going through.

My husband, on the other hand, was happily narrating how the interviewers were impressed by him and were asking him to join immediately. They were even ready to pay his flight tickets and presented the offer letter on the same day.

"Do you want to see my offer letter", he asked.

Nonchalantly I took it from his hand and gave a cursory glance.

"What the heck is this", I exclaimed as I read the employer's name. It took me a while to realize what was happening.
"I .... hate .... you"

He just stood there, grinning ear to ear.

I passed around the letter and only then loud cheers started erupting from all of them, while I kept muttering - I hate you so very very much. Although in my heart I knew how relieved I was.

So apparently, this was my husband's style of delivering good news. Yup, he had got a job offer, but in Sydney itself. And since he is a big mischief maker, nothing in my household is without drama. :)

Of course, that night was a 'party night'.

Along with ClaireParul and Shalini we have formed an Unconventional Alliance with A to Z co-host Pam Margolis as the ring leader ... all set to rock the party.
