Two Fates by Judy Balan - Review

What would happen if you realize you are no longer in love with your spouse? The story of 2Fates revolves around two such souls who believe that the patience and love in their relationship is draining out although for petty reasons and divorce is the only solution to put a seal to it. They then scheme to break the news to their families who are so hopelessly in love with each other, that for a while you wonder if the Satya Yug has returned for its second inning ;) They do get divorced, but how, why and what happens after that is for you to find.

That’s the plot and I am guilty of reading the end chapters first :P The one thing that amazed and impressed me is narration, turning a topic as serious as divorce into a laughter riot, belly splitting comedy. I am in love with the sarcasm, the humour and the witty tete-e-tete between the couple.

Though the couple constantly snubbed at each other, their chemistry felt more romantic and mushy than Deepika-Imran in Break ke Baad. I sincerely hope the writer won’t cringe at such a horrific analogy. {I was literally pulling out my hair while watching Break Ke Baad}.

With each of their fight, they seemed more in love with each other that made me go awww, eeee and all other vowels gushed by a typical girl :P

The best part is that the plot moves super fast and not once did I feel that the story was dragging though it ended in a total Bollywood isshtyle. I doubt if the writer wrote the book with hope that it would be adapted into a movie.

Some of the anecdotes are so hilarious and crazy that it reminded me of my utterly insane bunch of friends, located in various locations but chatting under one room called LR or Laughter Room, which sometimes I tend to call as Loafer Room.

The book is inspired from and spoofed on Chetan Bhagat’s 2 States, but I felt the story of divorce is way better than the story of marriage. Although, the whole plot could be summarized in two lines, I would give full marks to Judy for the persistent humor and keeping the readers engrossed till the end.

So, if you are looking for a light hearted, casual read, go for it.
